Safe Manual Handling
More than one third of all reportable ‘Over Three Day’ injuries, and nearly
10% of ‘Major Injuries’ are associated with manual handling – the transporting
or supporting of loads by hand or by bodily force. Many injuries are not
immediate and obvious, but are cumulative resulting from repeated exposure
to manual handling operations.
For workers this high rate of injury is highly significant since such accidents and
absences lead to potential loss of earnings, missed opportunities and usually
significant pain or discomfort.
By taking a look at how manual handling risks arise and how to reduce or
eliminate the likelihood of injury in different work environments, this course
will help the learner to avoid joining future Health and Safety Executive injury statistics
An Introduction to Managing Health and Safety (RoSPA)
Ensuring the health and safety of employees is one of the prime responsibilities
of any organisation. Failing to do so represents a moral, ethical and commercial
shortfall that can, and will, have disastrous results for both the organisation and thepeople who work for it.
Fire Safety and Evacuation (Rospa Approved)
Fire is probably the biggest risk to life that most people face in the workplace. It
is, therefore, amazing that many people have little or no idea about the common
causes of fire, how to deal with them and how to escape safely from the scene
should a fire occur. This course deals with all three of these vital subjects, and
successful completion of the course could literally be the difference between life
and death.
An Introduction to Health and Safety at Work (Rospa)
As someone responsible for health and safety it probably surprises you how cavalier people can be about workplace health and safety, especially in apparently safe environments such as an office.
This course underlines the very real risks that exist in all workplaces, whilst reinforcing the personal responsibilities laid down by law. It also addresses the learner’s attitude to health and safety, and discusses in overview the type of risks they face.
This course helps the learner to recognise health and safety as a real workplace issue.

Slips, Trips and Falls (Rospa Approved)
The Health and Safety Executive states that over one third of all major injuries
reported to them each year are the result of a slip or trip leading to a fall. Slips
and trips are the most common causes of non-fatal major injuries in both the
manufacturing and service industries, and account for over half of all reported
injuries to members of the public on business premises.
These statistics provide powerful proof of the dangers presented by slips, trips and
falls and this course will enable the learner to protect themself, colleagues and
visitors in their workplace.
This course is a crucial first step in making the workplace safer, and creating
accident-related cost-savings for the learner’s organisation.
RSI Repetitive Strain Injury (RoSPA)
Any RSI is painful and, in some cases, highly debilitating. It can lead to an inability to do certain jobs, or even work at all. For the individual this can have physical, mental and financial costs, whilst for the organisation it can mean the additional costs of staff cover, recruitment and job training
Staying Safe in Confined Spaces (RoSPA)
Every year in the UK people are killed whilst working in confined spaces.
Accidents occur across a broad range of industries, and rescuers operating
without proper training or equipment are frequently among the victims.
The hazards involved in such work are serious, and the risks invariably high, so
appropriate training is vital – and a legal requirement.
Staying Safe with Hazardous Substances
This course enables learners to identify hazardous substances, deal with them safely and take appropriate steps in the event of mishap.
Staying Safe with Noise (RoSPA)
The effects of noise on hearing can be profoundly damaging, often resulting in
permanent hearing loss. Not only is this morally and ethically undesirable for any
organisation, it can also result in significant financial penalties and personal injury
claims.
This course will help the learner to understand how his or her hearing works and
how it is affected by excess noise. It will also mean that the learner will be able to
recognise noise risks and put in place appropriate safety precautions.
Following this course an employee will be able to recognise noise risks and act
proactively to prevent harm occurring
Staying Safe with Electricity (RoSPA)
Very often accidents at work involving electricity result from a casual attitude arising from familiarity. By requiring employees to undertake this course employers will ensure that they are both reminded of basic safety precautions and acquire up to date knowledge of health and safety best practice.
Staying Safe with Display Screen Equipment
Millions of people in the UK now use display screen equipment
for a significant part of their work, and this rapid growth in the use
of both fixed and mobile forms of DSE has been accompanied
by increasing concerns about an associated range of health and
safety problems.
An Introduction to Basic First Aid
There are a number of reasons why first aid is so important, such as encouraging
general safety, preventing casualties’ conditions from worsening and,
ultimately, saving lives. Ideally, everyone would have a basic knowledge of what
first aid is, why it is important, how to apply it and what do to in an emergency.
This course describes what first aid is and why it is important. It also provides
sufficient information for the user to be able to apply first aid safely and effectively to different types of casualty.
Introduction to Risk Assessment
Having completed this course the learner will be able to carry out an effective health and safety risk assessment. Any person for whom responsibility for the health and safety of others forms part of their job description needs to know how to carry out a risk assessment. To be given this responsibility without complementary training is daunting for the individual and
almost certain to lead to errors and omissions when risk controls are decided.
Completion of this course will ensure that such individual possess the key skills and knowledge necessary to enable them to carry out an effective risk assessment.
Risk Assessment for Managers
Employers must carry out risk assessments in respect of all significant workplace
hazards, and failure to comply with this legal requirement can result in prosecution
and heavy penalties. Such prosecutions rarely arise from any wilful intention to
break the law but rather through an ignorance of the legal requirements, or a lack
of understanding of how to carry out the assessments, how detailed they should be
and how they should be recorded.
Having completed this course the learner will feel competent and able to conduct
risk assessments effectively and to appropriate standards.
COSHH Awareness Rospa Approved
Many businesses use hazardous substances as part of the process of manufacture,
whilst some produce such substances as a result of those processes.
By definition, such substances can cause harm to employees, contractors and
other people.
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) create
the general requirements for employers to protect employees and other persons
from the hazards created by hazardous substances used in the workplace through
the use of risk assessment, control of exposure, health surveillance and incident
planning.
This course provides an awareness of the essential COSHH requirements for those
working with, or potentially affected by, hazardous substances.

• Describe the people most at risk
• Explain how to assess and control the risk
Protecting The Environment at Work and Home (RoSPA)
The healthy functioning of our planet’s ecosystems – our air, water, and land – and
the vast diversity of life on Earth is essential. To achieve this everyone needs to
understand how they can avoid pollution and waste, protect watercourses, promote
biodiversity and sustain natural resources.
This course will enable learners to identify the causes of pollution and waste,
minimise negative impacts to the environment and enhance the health and
functioning of ecosystems where they live.

Duty of Care
Duty of Care’ involves the promotion
of wellbeing – that is the positive way
in which a person feels and thinks
of themselves - and making sure that
people are kept safe from harm, abuse and injury.
Understanding your role in Health and Social Care
No one can be expected to perform well in their job if they
don’t fully understand what that job is! Workers in health
and social care are no exception – indeed, understanding
their job role is arguably much more important
than in many other occupations.
In this course we explore how to make sure job role
and responsibilities are fully understood, what those
responsibilities are likely to entail and how they impact on
relationships with the people being supported, employers,
members of the care team and the individual themselves.
Personal Development for workers in Health and Social care
Personal development is a lifelong process that enables
you to continuously check and improve your skills. In this
course we will look at what a development plan is and
how it can help you develop and grow.
In this course we explore how to make the most of
personal development and the impact it can have on you
Equality and Diversity in Health and Social Care
Equality and diversity are crucial
to the practice of successful health
and social care because they ensure
that the services provided are not only
accessible to everyone, but are provided in a way that
promotes dignity and respect. They also ensure that
care is focused on the individual, rather than having it
provided in a ‘one size fits all’ package.
This course aims to ensure that the learner understands
what is meant by equality and diversity, and how it
should be implemented within the context of health and
social care.
Person Centred Practice in Health and Social Care
Health and social care professionals
provide the highest quality of care by
developing strong partnerships between
themselves, the individuals for whom they care
and the other services that provide care and support.
Person-Centred Practice, with its focus on providing
personalised care that treats people with compassion and
respect, provides a framework that enables health and
social care professionals to create effective relationships
between all parties.
This course aims to ensure that the learner understands
what Person-Centred Practice is, why it is important and
what constitutes best practice in its implementation.
Privacy and Dignity in Health and Social Care
Privacy and dignity are immensely
important to us all throughout our
lives, whatever our age or physical or
mental ability. Being able to maintain privacy
and dignity has a profound effect on self-esteem,
confidence and the ability to function within society.
Invasion of privacy, or an attack on dignity, produces
different reactions in different people – it may be
annoyance or embarrassment, or a feeling of being
ignored or considered irrelevant. Whatever the reaction,
it will be negative and damaging.
Fluids,Nutrition and Food Safety
In this course we consider the
importance of a balanced diet,
and its significance for those receiving
care or support. We also take a look at the very important
subject of food safety, which requires us to ensure that
the food people eat is not going to cause them harm.
Basic Life Support in Health and Social Care
Basic life support is a level of medical care which is used
for victims of life-threatening illnesses or injuries until
they can be given full medical care at a hospital.
In this course we explore how to administer basic life
support correctly.
• Administering CPR
• What is basic life support for adults and children
• Clearing obstructed airways (adults and children)
Handling Information in Health and Social Care
Confidentiality is an important right of people
who receive care and support. It is part of the
relationship of trust that individuals have with
healthcare support workers and adult social care
workers.
Information about an individual should not be
shared with anybody else, even the person’s family
or friends, without the individual’s permission. You
must ensure that you protect private information
from accidental viewing or hearing. For example,
if you are talking to a colleague about someone,
you should consider whether other people could
overhear your conversation.
Infection Prevention and Control
Infection and infectious diseases in humans are caused
when harmful germs, known as pathogens, enter the
body and grow. These micro-organisms are so small
they can only be seen by using a microscope.
For people living in care homes, infections can be
serious and, in some cases, life-threatening. They can
also make existing medical conditions worse. Regular
contact with staff, other residents, family and friends
and the shared living space all mean infection can
easily be passed around. It is therefore vital to take the
steps that can help prevent infection occurring.
The aim of this course is to familiarise yourself
with these and provide you with useful ways of
preventing them.
Mental Health, Dementia and Learning Disability
Mental health problems, dementia
and learning disabilities affect a
substantial proportion of the UK
population in any given year. It is
thereforeimportant that those who work with
people who suffer from, or are at risk of suffering from,
these conditions can recognise typical symptoms and
react with compassion and understanding.
Health and Safety in Health and Social Care
The main reason for health and safety legislation
is to protect people at work and those who are
affected by work activities.
Legislation, or laws are in place so that everyone
understands how they should act, what is
acceptable and what is not. And this is something
that should be taken very seriously in health and
social care.
Certified Online Personal Safety and Wellbeing Courses
Handling work related stress
Work is actually very good for most people as it provides
a purpose in life and a source of personal fulfilment. Work
pressure can, therefore, be a positive and a motivating
factor that helps us to achieve our goals and full potential.
Work-related stress, however, occurs when aspects of
job design – such as constant change, long hours or tight
deadlines - result in work pressures of various kinds
becoming excessive. This excessive pressure can leave
people feeling worried, uncertain, and overwhelmed by
stress.
This course aims to enable the learner to understand
what work-related stress is, what causes it and how to
handle it effectively
Preventing Bullying in the Workplace (Rospa approved)
Bullying is responsible for 30% - 50% of all stress-related illness in the workplace
and costs employers up to £2 billion in lost revenue every year.
A lack of recognition and acceptance of workplace bullying results in costly
damage to both individuals and organisations.
One of the most widely accepted ways of reducing the risk of bullying is to raise
employee awareness and provide appropriate training on how to recognise and
address it. ‘Preventing Bullying in the Workplace’ can play an important part in
your anti-bullying strategy by raising awareness and understanding about what
constitutes bullying behaviour, what causes it and what can be done about it.
Harassment, Victimisation and Bullying
This course, which will introduce you to the subjects of harassment, victimisation and bullying. By the end of this course you will be able to:
Explain the difference between harassment, victimisation and bullying
Recognise how the law views harassment, victimisation and bullying
Acknowledge how such behaviour could be avoided within the workplace
Explain how harassment, victimisation and bullying affects people
Personal Safety in other People's Homes and Premises
A surprising number of people work in occupations that require them to work on their own
either in people’s homes or in other people’s premises – examples include social workers,
community nurses, home helps, sales representatives and estate agents.
Sadly, for a variety of reasons, each day sees many people in these occupations subject to
either verbal or physical violence or aggression.
This course looks at why such violence and aggression occurs. It also enables the learner to
develop skills aimed at reducing the likelihood of violence and – should it occur – limiting its
outcome.
Lone Worker Types and Typical Risks
Many people have jobs where they are required to work alone and without direct
supervision. This absence of immediate help or assistance creates significant risk because
of the ever-present prospect of accidental injury or violence and aggression – the latter, for
some occupations, being accompanied by the added risk of robbery or other crime.
This course looks at the five key lone working occupational groups and helps the learner to
identify the occupations that fall within those groups. By identifying their own, or a similar
occupation, and the group into which it falls the learner is able to go on to recognise and
identify with the particular risks to personal safety that apply to that occupation.
Lone Working Hazards and Risks
Many people have jobs where they are required to work alone and without direct
supervision. This absence of immediate help or assistance creates significant risk because
of the ever-present prospect of accidental injury or violence and aggression – the latter, for
some occupations, being accompanied by the added risk of robbery or other crime.
This course introduces the learner to the potential hazards faced by lone workers. It then
considers whose responsibility it is to reduce or remove the risks associated with these
hazards and, in overview, how this is done.
Handling Violence and Aggression at work
One in five people at work are attacked or abused every year just for doing their job.
Teachers, doctors, nurses, carers, social workers, public transport workers, shop workers,
DWP staff and many others are all at risk every working day. But there is much that
employees and employers can do to reduce the number of victims – and undertaking this
course is a positive first step. As a result of undertaking it learners will be able to:
• Explain the causes of violence and aggression
• Describe how to avoid it
• State how to deal with aggressive behaviour
And
• State how to deal with actual physical violence
